A brief wrap up...
Thursday: Arrived! Fetched from ATL airport by the Mother. Airport line shenanigans were followed by hotel check-in, badge registration line shenanigans, Con Security peace bonding shenanigans, and DINNER. I was very happy about the dinner part. Hard Rock Cafe you are beautiful. Never change.
Friday: Attended BSG panel. Anders and Apollo were awesome to listen to, as was the space expert for the show. Katee Sackhoff was entertaining on stage, but less so one-on-one. Still happy I got her autograph, and that we were lucky enough to attend the panel she deigned to show up for. Woo! Female Adam Baldwin indeed...
Also ran into some friends from Minneapolis at the BSG panel which was awesome! Tried to catch up with my friend Elizebeth to do a Deathstar henna tattoo on my belly, but I couldn't find her.
And Graham wore his awesome UCBS costume for a bit before the heat got too oppressive.
Then we saw Stan Lee's panel. That man is such a ham, but it's awesome. He tells great stories. I also really appreciated his comments on web comics versus print comics: "don't waste time feeling sorry for the publishers."
Friday was a good day for catching people in costumes.
Plants versus Zombies:
Tucker and Dale versus Evil
Doctor Who Cosplayers
Statler and Waldorf
Daenerys and Drogo from Game of Thrones
And ME! In my Juno costume! Three people knew who I was. I call that a WIN.
And here is Rachel as Katniss, Mom and me:
Saturday, Mom and I got up and watched the parade. This may be the last year we do that. It was so crowded and so long. And people are jerks. They sit on the sidewalk edge where they could see perfectly, and then stand up. So everyone behind them has to stand to see. For 90 minutes... No thank you.
Then Graham and I did some people watching and checked out the Dealers Rooms. He bought me a shiny hat!
We caught a video game character panel featuring Felicia Day and a few other people from video game land. It would have been more interesting if they were discussing games either of us had played. And if the jerks in line behind us hadn't been shepherded into sitting right next to us for the whole panel.
We also stood in line for and got to see the Horror Film Festival shorts. Alas there were no chairs, and we watched it from the floor :(
Sunday, we slept in super late. By this point my current cold, aka Con Crud, was in full swing. Graham's allergies were also very bad. We found an awesome spot to people watch that morning. Alas, all the times we found to people watch, not too many people were in costume. The best costumes came out when the hotels were too crowded to meander around comfortably, so we didn't get too many photos this year.
We had a nice meetup with my friend Dana and her two kids. Then we headed back to the film festival, and got to watch the SciFi short films from the floor again. Later that night we attended a zombie movie lovers panel & watched the Directors Cut of Dawn of the Dead, the 1978 version.
Every night we had dinner with Mom, Rachel, and friends, and caught up on all the panels everyone had attended. There were just *so* many people here there year. It was oppressive to be in any crowd of people for too long. Check out this picture of the difference in the Marriott hotel lobby from 11am to 1am the same day: http://i.imgur.com/GRHtT.jpg
Overall we had a good time, but we are very much hoping they start a cap on the number of people who can buy tickets in the future. We met a lady who comes to Con only to watch the panels from her hotel room. We can sympathize with that mentality now.
Also we ran into Felicia Day SO MANY TIMES. It's like she was everywhere. Mom caught a candid shot of Dean Cain and Adam Baldwin at the airport arriving. Graham and I spied Billy Boyd departing for Los Angeles as we were flying home.
We were super grateful to Mom and to Rachel and Christian for taking care of us out of towners for the weekend!
And lastly here are Graham and me in costume:
